The Counting 4 Scarborough (C4S) project is being developed by a public sector/private sector/higher education partnership; and concerns the collection and analysis of historical and real time data regarding the levels of ‘activity’ within the town of Scarborough.

The C4S Project represents a genuinely innovative step change in the way tourism is managed and exploited in local settings; harnessing the technologies and management practices of large-scale businesses such as Ikea, McDonald’s and Disney and applying them to a destination.

Local businesses who participate in the C4S Project will benefit from the kind of information they would not normally have access to; enabling them to address issues such as staffing levels, supply of raw materials and flexible pricing in a way that allows them to be immediately responsive to circumstances.

It is expected that further benefits of the C4S Project will include ‘softer’ outcomes such as the establishment of trust and collaborative networks; enabling joint working across sectors, which is necessary for the successful operation of an industry reliant on the destination’s collective assets of quality, reputation and branding.

The current "Counting 4 Scarborough - Project Summary" document is available to download; in either .doc (Word) or .pdf (Adobe Acrobat) format.
